Senate Nominating Committee

Charge

The membership and function of the Senate Nominating Committee is described in the Rules of the Faculty Senate.  Its task is to make appointments to all standing positions that the Faculty Senate has the responsibility to appoint.  

The Committee’s membership includes three current SEC members, three members of the Standing Faculty who are not current SEC members, and the three Senate Tri-Chairs (who collectively have a single vote).  Terms are one year each beginning on January 1, and the membership is determined annually by SEC during the preceding fall semester. 

2026 Membership

The 2026 Senate Nominating Committee is comprised of the following members:

  • Iwan Barankay (Associate Professor of Management and Business Economics & Public Policy; Senate Executive Committee Member)
  • Kathleen Boesze-Battaglia (Professor of Basic and Translational Sciences; Senate Executive Committee Member)
  • Kathleen Brown (David Boies Professor of History; Faculty Senate Chair)
  • William Burke-White (Professor of Law; Senate Executive Committee Member)
  • Eric Feldman (Heimbold Chair in International Law and Professor of Law; Faculty Senate Past Chair)
  • Scott Halpern (John M. Eisenberg, MD Professor in Medicine)
  • Roy Hamilton (Professor of Neurology, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, and Psychiatry; Faculty Senate Chair-Elect)
  • Lauren Massimo (Associate Professor of Nursing), CHAIR
  • Christopher Mauger (Associate Professor of Physics and Astronomy)

Appointments Made by the Senate Nominating Committee

The Senate Nominating Committee makes appointments of Standing Faculty members to the following positions that require publication in Almanac for review:

  • Senate Chair-Elect
  • Senate Executive Committee Secretary-Elect
  • Senate Executive Committee At-Large members
  • Senate Executive Committee Assistant Professor members
  • Membership of the Senate Committee on Academic Freedom and Responsibility (SCAFR)
  • Membership of the Senate Committee on the Economic Status of the Faculty (SCESF)

Additional nominations for the above positions may be submitted by a petition of 25 Standing Faculty members within two weeks of the slate’s publication.

In addition to the above, the Nominating Committee makes appointments or advisory recommendations for Standing Faculty Membership on the following committees:
